How to Set Goals & Actually Achieve Them in The New Year

It’s hard to believe that the new year is right around the corner. It feels like the summer just ended and already people are asking me what my plans are for New Years!

As we move closer to the new year we also move closer to new goals, new resolutions and hopefully new accomplishments. Writing your goals is the easy part but figuring out HOW you're going to achieve them is a whole different story. If you want to finally learn how to actually achieve your goals in the new year keep reading! 

Having a clear & specific vision of what you want is monumental to seeing success in your business.

Simply saying you want to be “successful” is not enough. What does that mean? What does success mean to you? The first step to specifically define what your vision for your business is. Where do you want your business to be next year? Five years from now? 

Your vision gives you focus and helps you to create goals and then strategies that will get you to where you want to be.

Now that you know where you want to go, the next step is to set goals to get there. For everything you do, you should have a goal. Essentially your goals are your roadmap to success. The point of having a goal is that it gives you something to work towards but most importantly, it gives you an actionable to-do list so that you can achieve your vision. 

I meet a lot of designers and fashion creatives and across the board everyone wants to learn how to turn their business into a self-sustaining brand that allows them to work for themselves and live their passion, full-time.

That’s the ultimate goal, right? But what does “working for yourself” truly mean? We know what the glamorous side means. We want to be able to make our own rules, create our own schedule, and spend our days doing what makes us happy.

But in order to make it happen, you need to have a clear vision of what “working for yourself” truly means. Have you calculated how much money you need to make per month in order to break-even? Have you determined how much product you have to sell each month in order to sustain your business and lifestyle?

When setting your goals, be as specific as possible and remember that vague goals produce vague results. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and really push yourself, however, be honest and open with yourself and make sure the goals you set are realistic and obtainable. 

A goal with out a plan is just a wish.

This tends to be where the disconnect between setting goals and achieving them tends to happen. It's not enough to simply set goals. The next step is to create a plan for how you're going to achieve the goals you set for yourself. If your goal is to grow your email list, what specific things are you going to do to grow your list? If your goal is to increase your brand visibility, what specific things are you going to do throughout the year to achieve this?

Dreams don’t just happen. They’re made.

Get specific about your vision and about your goals. Get specific and be honest about what it will truly take for you to make your vision a reality. Then, create strategies and processes to make it happen. THAT'S how you actually achieve those new years resolutions you've set.
